The Hospitality Industry in Las Vegas Remains Strong

What do a wedding coordinator, a night club host, a security guard, and a front-desk agent have in common? They all work in the exciting fi eld integral to making Las Vegas what it is today – the hospitality capital of the world. And what an exciting time to be a part of this growing business, but not just in Las Vegas. While many U.S. employers are proceeding with caution when considering hiring new employees for fi rst quarter 2009, according to the results of the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, the leisure and hospitality industry sector anticipates increased hiring activity during the upcoming quarter and expects to boost staff levels compared to three months ago.

Certainly, one place within the hospitality industry that is seeing growth is right here in Las Vegas. With casino, resort, and mixed-use development construction projects nearing completion all along Las Vegas Boulevard, hiring for these new properties will soon be in full swing. If you have never worked in the hospitality industry, now might be the perfect time to start your career. The hospitality industry is critical to the infrastructure of our city.

According to the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, an estimated 37 million tourists visited Las Vegas in 2008. To serve these tourists, the Nevada Department of Employment Training and Rehabilitation has identified more than 270,000 people working in the leisure and hospitality industry. More.

Ben Stein Hits the Nail on the Head

Business meetings are usually not a waste of time, even if they are held in Las Vegas or at a resort with a golf course near a Southern California beach. They are not decadent, with rare exceptions.
