Concierges fill many roles

The concierge — literally "the keeper of the keys" in French — has been around since the Middle Ages, when the concierge did just that at the castles of royalty. These days, the concierge is the hotel employee who often sits at a desk in the lobby, available to make dinner reservations, book sightseeing tours and facilitate other activities for tourists.
